In September 2023, The Netherlands experienced the first outbreak of Bluetongue (caused by the bluetongue virus BTV) since its BTV-free status in 2012. The outbreak was unexpectedly by BTV serotype 3. The virus was particularly virulent to sheep in which mortality rates varied greatly and mortality rates of 50% and higher were no exception.

Long standing member of SVEPM and head of the epidemiology department of Royal GD, Inge Santman,  presented the course and impact of this outbreak to the membership and others interested during this 1 hour webinar.
